Dr M. Narayana Swamy is a highly experienced neurosurgeon with an accomplished career spanning advanced brain, spine, and neuroendoscopic surgery. He brings with him a strong academic, clinical, and surgical background, having served in leading medical institutions and tertiary care centres across India.
With extensive expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery, neuroendoscopy, cranial and spinal procedures, complex trauma management, and advanced spinal instrumentation, Dr Swamy is known for combining surgical precision with a patient-centred approach. His areas of special interest include CV junction surgery, endoscopic cranial and spinal surgery, thoracoscopic and minimally invasive spine stabilisation, deformity correction, and complex cranial tumour surgeries.
Before joining PSRI Hospital as Director – Neurosurgery, Dr Swamy served as Director and Head of Neurosurgery at Park Hospital, Palam Vihar, and earlier as Head of Department and Professor of Neurosurgery at NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur. He has also held key academic and clinical positions at reputed institutions, including Command Hospital, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, PGIMER Chandigarh, and NSCB Medical College.
Dr Swamy completed his MBBS from Mysore Medical College, MS in General Surgery from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and MCh in Neurosurgery from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has further enhanced his expertise through fellowships and advanced training in spinal surgery, neuroendoscopic cranial and spinal surgery, and spinal surgery observership at Ganga Hospital, Coimbatore.
A committed academician and mentor, Dr Swamy has guided postgraduate and super-speciality students and has been associated with teaching and examination responsibilities for MCh Neurosurgery programmes. He has served as an examiner, fellowship examiner, chief moderator, and organiser for neuroendoscopy programmes and workshops.
Dr Swamy has contributed significantly to neurosurgical research, with multiple publications in national and international journals. His work includes research on traumatic brain injuries, spinal lesions, neuroendoscopic techniques, thoracolumbar fracture stabilisation, awake focused craniotomy, and minimally invasive neurosurgical approaches. He has also contributed chapters to neurosurgery books and has been actively involved in workshops, webinars, and academic platforms focused on neuroendoscopy and advanced spine surgery.
Recognised for his dedication, discipline, and excellence during his service in the Armed Forces medical system, Dr Swamy has also received a Chief of Staff Commendation Card for his performance and commitment to duty.
At PSRI Hospital, Dr M. Narayana Swamy leads the Neurosurgery Department with a focus on safe, evidence-based, minimally invasive, and advanced neurosurgical care, offering patients comprehensive treatment for complex brain and spine conditions.
