Brief Profile

Dr Arush Sabharwal is an accomplished bariatric, metabolic and minimally invasive surgeon with over 15 years of dedicated experience in the surgical management of obesity, diabetes and related metabolic conditions. He has joined PSRI Hospital as a Senior Consultant in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery, bringing extensive clinical expertise, international training and a patient-centred approach to weight-loss and metabolic care.

He is the Founder and Chairman of the Surgical Centre for Obesity and Diabetes (SCOD) and has devoted a significant part of his career to addressing “diabesity”—the interconnected global burden of diabetes and obesity. His work focuses on helping patients achieve sustainable weight reduction, improvement in obesity-related medical conditions and a better overall quality of life through evidence-based surgical interventions.

Dr Sabharwal completed his Master of Surgery from Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, followed by senior residency at VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. He has received advanced training in bariatric, metabolic and minimally invasive surgery from renowned institutions in India and abroad. His international exposure includes specialised training at the University of Strasbourg and IRCAD in France, John Flynn Private Hospital in Australia, and the Chula Minimally Invasive Surgery Training Center in Bangkok, Thailand.

He is proficient in performing advanced procedures such as laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, mini gastric bypass and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. He also has extensive experience in general and advanced laparoscopic procedures, including gallbladder surgery, appendicectomy and hernia repair.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Sabharwal is actively involved in surgical education and has trained young surgeons and gynaecologists in minimal access surgery. He has served as invited faculty, speaker and operating faculty at several prestigious national and international conferences and workshops. In recognition of his contribution to obesity and diabetes surgery, he was honoured by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2016.

Known for his compassionate counselling and comprehensive approach, Dr Sabharwal works closely with patients to understand their health concerns and develop personalised treatment plans. His objective is not merely weight reduction, but long-term improvement in metabolic health, mobility, confidence and quality of life.
