Dr. Prof. (Dr) V P Choudhry

Brief Profile

Prof. Dr V P Choudhry has more than 5 decades of experience, his area of expertise includes Thalassemia, Hemoglobinopathies Bleeding & Coagulation Disorders, Leukemia, Lymphomas, Multiple myeloma, Refractory Anemia, Nutritional Anemia and Hemophilia.

He completed his MBBS from AIIMS in 1967, MD from AIIMS in 1972, Fellowship of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (FIAP) in 1992, Fellowship of International Medical Science Academy (FIMSA) in 1996, Fellowship of Indian Academy of Clinical Medicine (FIACM) in 1998 and Fellowship of Indian Society of Hematology & Transfusion Medicine in 2000.

He has also been the Former Chairperson of Pediatric Hemato – oncology IAP, Former President of the Indian Society of Hematology & Transfusion Medicine, Former President of Delhi Society of Hematology and Life Member of the Indian Society of Cancer Chemotherapists.

He was formerly the Professor and Head of Department of Hematology at AIIMS, Director of Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Kabul, Afghanistan and Medical Adviser at Armed Forces Medical Services.

DM Teaching & Training Program at AIIMS was initiated under Dr V P Choudhry’s leadership in 2001 and the Bone Marrow Transplantation program was started at AIIMS under Dr V P Choudhry’s guidance from 2002 onwards.

He has also won Dr J.G. Parkeh Oration by ISHTM (2012), Lifetime achievement award by IAP (2008), Dr J.B. Chatterjee Oration by ISHTM (2007), Prof. SK Sood Oration by DSH (2006), Malti Sathe Oration Award by ISHTM (2004), Distinguished Doctor’s Award by DMA (2004), Dr B.N. Dara Award by National Thalassemia Welfare Society (2001), Dr D.K. Pal Choudhry Award by Indian Medical Association (Delhi) (1999), Pediatric haematology-oncology Award by PHO Chapter Indian Academy of Pediatrics (1998), Manorama Sapre Award of Indian Society of Hematology & Blood Transfusion (1992), Silver Medal by East Zone Indian Academy of Pediatrics (1989), S.T. Achar Gold Medal by Indian Academy of Pediatrics (1980) and Silver Shield by International Congress of Pediatrics (1977).
